Image Advanced 1400 Treadmill

Image treadmills are manufactured by the parent company Icon Health and Fitness, the world’s largest fitness equipment manufacturer. Icon also owns, NordicTrack, FreeMotionFitness, Proform, Weider, HealthRider and the Epic brands. Icon was founded by two Utah businessmen in 1977.

The treadmill review site TreadmillAdviser.com suggests that you will usually get better value for money with an image treadmill since the brand is less well known and so the manufacturer cannot charge a premium.

I would say they are middle of the range treadmills being of higher quality and more expensive than Sportcraft, Cadence or Horizon but cheaper than the high end Life Fitness treadmills.

Advantages

1. It is sturdy and stable. Some of the cheaper models are known to wobble with use but not this one.

2. The 10 custom preset workouts make it less likely you will get bored and quit

3. Has a nice folding design that saves space when the machine is not in use

4. Extremely quiet even at high speeds meaning you can enjoy music or watch TV while exercising

5. The AirShock low impact belt makes it easier on your joints (compared to actual outdoor running)

Disadvantages

1. The display does not allow you to scroll to see your progress like some of the higher end models found in commercial gyms

2. The displayed speed is not always accurate if you quickly increase or reduce speed

3. The heart rate monitor is inaccurate. This is a common problem with virtually every treadmill. Unless you use a hospital grade EKG machine, heart rate monitors are a joke!
