The lateral thigh trainer is a piece of exercise equipment designed specifically to target the thighs. It is basically a variation on the stepper but that also allows you to step sideways instead of just up and down.

Does It Actually Work?
Does this late night informercial promoted product work as touted? The simple answer is no. The basic premise behind the machines design is that you can target the fat in certain areas on your body and effectively do “spot reduction” on your thighs. This is a fallacy that was disproved in the 1950’s but fitness equipment marketers never seem to tire of it.
I’ve said it before and I will say it again. You cannot “spot reduce” fat from certain areas on your body, be it your thighs or abs. All you can do is reduce your overall body fat percentage and let your body decide where the burned fat will come from.
You do this by eating fewer calories than you burn and also by building muscle (the more muscle you have, the more calories you will burn at rest). If you do this enough eventually you will get the figure you want—including slimmer, more shapely thighs!
That said the lateral thigh trainer is useful as a general exercise machine. I would say it is equivalent to taking a light to moderate intensity walk.

1. More fun to use than a standard stepper so you are less likely to get bored

2. If you are an advanced exerciser you will find it underwhelming since it does not provide much resistance
3. The lack of handles is something you’ll miss if you are used to commercial gym elliptical and treadmills
